Lauren Baker is a Director at The Cypress Group specializing in financial services where she uses her background from both Capitol Hill and the insurance industry in advocating for and advising clients on legislative policy. Before joining the Cypress team, Lauren worked for Senator Rob Portman where she was lead policy adviser for a portfolio covering banking, insurance and housing. Lauren led policy initiatives directed at reducing the burden of regulations arising from the Department of Labor’s Fiduciary Rule and Dodd-Frank/CFPB as well as securing TARP funding for Ohio to be used for housing foreclosure and neighborhood stabilization programs. In addition to advising the Senator on financial services, Lauren also covered a diverse range of issues including telecommunications, healthcare and science and technology.
Prior to the Senate, Lauren worked at State Farm Insurance, the US’s largest auto insurance company where she trained executives and agents on insurance industry trends and product sales tactics. In addition, Lauren served as a liaison between Corporate HQ and the Agency field operation in the deployment of innovative insurance industry programs including usage based insurance. Lauren started her career with the American Land Title Association after graduating with a BA in Political Science from John Carroll University. She lives in Washington DC with her husband and son.
