King Mueller is a Partner at The Cypress Group focusing on consumer finance, housing and budget policy, and leading our tax practice. King came to Cypress from Dome Advisors, which he co-founded to provide investment managers with actionable insight into policy decisions in Washington. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Banking & Finance in the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Legislative Affairs during which he represented the Secretary and other senior department officials before Congressional members and their staffs in efforts to pass such landmark legislation as the Housing and Economic Recovery Act (leading to the conservatorships of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) and the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act (authorizing TARP). He formerly served as a policy aide and tax counsel to Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott, a prominent member of the Senate Finance Committee. Prior to that, he was a policy advisor to the majority House Republican Conference; King received his BA from the College of Charleston and his JD/MBA from the University of South Carolina.
